Hey everyone. Nathan, at Shoemaker’s Insurance, reaching out to you today to answer another quick question for you. The question that we are going to answer today is, if a tree falls, does my homeowner’s policy cover it? The quick, easy answer that every insurance agent likes to use is, it depends. I’m going to go into a little bit more detail with you on that and explain why it depends and how it depends.
If a tree falls on your property, it is not necessarily covered, but there are some situations in which it can be covered. Some of those situations is if the tree falls onto a structure, then we are going to help make sure that we get that tree off of your structure as quickly as possible to help prevent any further damages from occurring. We also would cover some ornamental trees that you have planted around your house on certain homeowner policies, up to just a small amount. It’s normally right around $250, approximately that we would cover trees for. Now, that is only for the ornamental trees, we’re not going to cover trees that are in a fence row or out in the middle of your woods, falling down. That is not what your homeowner’s policy is meant for. Homeowner’s insurance is not a maintenance policy. It is used to protect you from sudden losses that can create some issues for your property.
So again, that’s just a quick paraphrase version. We’d love to talk to you more about the way that trees get covered under homeowners policies. So feel free to reach out to us and we look forward to talking with you. Please make sure that you call us and have all these fun discussions with us. Have a great day. Take care.
